"During the ceremony it was also announced that plans to build additional housing in other Gaza Strip communities have been approved."

A day after Likud referendum, Neve Dekalim residents reasserting their intention to avoid evacuation.

A day after Likud members overwhelmingly rejected PM Sharon's plan to remove Gaza Strip settlements, Katif Bloc residents laid the cornerstone for a new 21-unit neighborhood in Neve Dekalim.

Dozens of residents took part in the ceremony, which also featured the planting of a carob tree, with settlers stressing that area residents will be able to enjoy its fruit "even 70 years from now".

During the ceremony it was also announced that plans to build additional housing in other Gaza Strip communities have been approved.

The joy among settlers was marred by the heavy mourning over the death of Tali Hatuel and her four daughters who were murdered on Sunday by terrorists on the Kissufim road. "We will always remember you and and your untimely death. We will continue to build and that is our answer to all those who slandered us. We tell the people of Israel that Gush Katif will be part of Israel for eternity," Ganei Tal resident Tova Bar-Shalom said.

This website is a tribute to Why War?, one of the nation's first and most innovative post-9/11 student antiwar organizations. Born on October 22, 2001 at Swarthmore College, we were a handful of freshmen and sophmores who vocally opposed the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere. And now, seven years later, we are retiring this website as we focus our efforts on new directions. We hope that it continues to serve future activists and we remain confident that humanity is on the verge birthing a better world.
