E-Voting Flaws Risk Ballot Fraud

Alan Boyle | MSNBC | July 24, 2003

" 'A 15-year-old computer enthusiast could make these counterfeit cards in a garage and sell them,' Rubin said. 'Then even an ordinary voter, without knowing anything about computer code, could cast more than one vote for a candidate at a polling place that uses this electronic voting system.' " [more]

Anti-War Protests Extend to Second Day

STAFF | MSNBC | February 16, 2003

"Tens of thousands of people thronged the streets of Sydney and other Australian cities on Sunday, beginning a second day of global marches against a possible U.S. war on Iraq. Afghan Regime Change One Year Later

Preston Mendenhall | MSNBC | October 8, 2002

"When the role that Afghanistan's deep descent into chaos played in the 9/11 attacks became clear, the White House promised things would be different this time around. "Unprecidented" warnings from the State Department, U.S. military, FBI, and Pentagon sources have sparked a raise in the "threat assessment level" to "orange, or high risk" for the first time since the system was instituted. This indicates "specific and credible" threats against mostly overseas U.S. targets. Surface-to-air missles will likely be positioned around Washington. Several embassies and consulates will close. Marines Learn Urban Combat

Greg Jaffe | MSNBC | August 21, 2002

"Finally, the assault on ìal-Georgeî made clear that attacking cities without having a big numerical advantage is a risky endeavor. More-hawkish members of the Bush administration have suggested that a U.S. force of 80,000 would be enough to defeat Mr. Husseinís 400,000-member army and 100,000-strong Republican Guard. Theyíre counting on the army being dispirited and the rest of the force turning on Mr. Hussein at some point in the fighting. In the assault on 'al-George,' however, it took 980 Marines to roust just 160 rebels from urban terrain. And despite wielding a 6-to-1 advantage, the Marine force still took about 100 casualties." This website is a tribute to Why War?, one of the nation's first and most innovative post-9/11 student antiwar organizations. Born on October 22, 2001 at Swarthmore College, we were a handful of freshmen and sophmores who vocally opposed the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere. And now, seven years later, we are retiring this website as we focus our efforts on new directions. We hope that it continues to serve future activists and we remain confident that humanity is on the verge birthing a better world.
